Logistics service provider expands plastics warehouse in the Netherlands again
Sievert Logistik (Lengerich / Germany; www.sievert-transporte.de) plans to double the existing warehouse and logistics space for customers in the plastics industry at its Hardenberg site in the Netherlands. Not far from the German border, a new 5,000 m2 high-rise warehouse is slated for construction by mid-2021. No details were given regarding the invested sum.

“We have been observing an increasing demand for silo logistics for several months now,” says Rui Macedo, managing director of Sievert Logistik. This applies above all to handling – for example, filling or transferring from Big Bags to silo HGVs – as well as the transport of so-called “clean goods” such as plastic pellets, animal feed or industrial minerals. The current expansion will also make the range of services offered less dependent on the work processes in the large seaports of Antwerp / Belgium and Rotterdam / The Netherlands, to which, however, there are still daily connections by rail and inland waterway.

About 1.5 years ago, Sievert had already significantly expanded its warehouse and logistics space in Hardenberg (see Plasteurope.com of 10.07.2019). With the currently planned doubling of capacity, the logistics expert intends to serve customers within a radius of 500 km within 24 hours. In addition to northern Germany, Scandinavia is also set to become a focus in the future. The Dutch subsidiary Nederlandse Transport Maatschappij (N.T.M.; Hardenberg; www.ntm.info) is responsible on site.

Dutch supplier of PVC compounds PlastChem (MT Barneveld; www.plastchem.nl) is among those who will benefit from the expansion. Sievert has been handling the transport and repackaging of plastic granulates for the company for several years.

In order to be prepared for the future, the option of further expanding the site has already been considered. With branches at 16 locations in Germany and one location in the Netherlands, and a total of around 500 employees, Sievert Logistik achieved a turnover of approximately EUR 109m in 2019.
