Austrian plastic packaging group Alpla (Hard; www.alpla.com) and PTT Global Chemical (Bangkok / Thailand; www.pttgcgroup.com) have formally established their Envicco joint venture, which will build and operate a plastics recycling plant in Thailand’s Rayong province – see Plasteurope.com of 17.09.2019. The European Commission has approved the creation of the JV in January 2020, saying that it had no competition concerns because the overlaps between the two companies’ activities were very limited.
Owned 30% by Alpla and 70% by PTT Global, the facility will manufacture 30,000 t/y of recycled PET and 15,000 t/y of recycled HDPE. Commercial operations of the first recycling plant for post-consumer packaging waste in Thailand are expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2021.
