Ineos Styrolution (Frankfurt / Germany; www.ineos-styrolution.com) said it has started construction of its new 100,000 t/y acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) plant in Bayport, Texas / USA. The new plant is expected to be operational by 2021 – see Plasteurope.com of 07.01.2019.
The company said the project is part of a bigger expansion plan for the Americas, which includes increased ABS capacity at its Altamira site in Mexico, while transitioning the ASA production to Bayport. ABS capacity at Altamira will be expanded by about 70,000 t/y.
Alexander Glück, president for the Americas at Ineos Styrolution, said at the groundbreaking ceremony, “I am excited to see us building the most efficient dedicated ASA plant in the world, here in Bayport. ASA is a versatile high performance styrenic resin.” The project is adjacent to Ineos Styrolution’s styrene monomer plant, which, according to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), has a 771,000 t/y capacity.
