At the end of December 2018, Ineos Styrolution (Frankfurt / Germany; www.ineos-styrolution.com) announced plans to go ahead with a new 100,000 t/y ASA plant at its site in Bayport, Texas / USA – see Plasteurope.com of 05.05.2017. WorleyParsons (Sydney / Australia; www.worleyparsons.com) has been awarded the contract for engineering, procurement and construction of the facility due to start up in 2021.
Ineos Styrolution said the investment will cement its position as the only global producer with ASA capacity in all world regions. Parallel to the new project in Texas, the Germany-based subsidiary of the Ineos group (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com) said it will increase capacity for the styrenic polymer at Altamira / Mexico by 70,000 t/y. The additional output capability at the two sites will allow more flexible production of speciality grades to meet growing demand in the Americas, said Alexander Glück, president Americas.
According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), Ineos Styrolution has capacity to produce 771,000 t/y of styrene monomer at Bayport. In the Americas, it can currently produce 160,000 t/y of ASA at Addyston, Ohio / USA. At the end of 2016, the company said it was planned to widen its existing 160,000 t/y ASA capacity at Altamira by around 20,000 t/y through debottlenecking up to the beginning of 2018 – see Plasteurope.com of 08.12.2016.
