STOROPACK
North American packaging assets purchased / Loose Fill business further enhanced / Brampton distribution centre relocated
German protective film producer Storopack (Metzingen; www.storopack.com) has acquired two companies in North America, boosting its Loose Fill business in the region. The company has also relocated to a new Canadian plant and distribution centre.
Effective from 1 January 2016, Storopack completed the acquisitions of Sealed Air (SEE, Elmwood Park, New Jersey / USA; www.sealedair.com) and CPI (New York / USA; www.cpipackaging.com). It has purchased SEE’s national EPS and Bio Loose Fill businesses as well as cushion-bags, which are currently served out of several US locations. The company has also taken over CPI’s businesses in EPS, Bio Loose Fill and Bubble products, which are supplied from Somerset, New Jersey. “Both acquisitions increase Storopack’s Loose Fill business in North America and strengthen the company both strategically and operationally in a challenging protective packaging market segment,” said Daniel Wachter, president of Storopack North America.
Production of the Loose Fill and Bubble products will be integrated into Storopack’s existing network, which comprises 18 production plants and warehouses in the USA and Canada. This will, the company said, enable more productive use of capacities and also strengthen its portfolio of products and services throughout North America.
During the past few years, Storopack has undertaken a targeted expansion in the USA, having concluded a number of acquisitions and partnerships – see Plasteurope.com of 16.09.2014.
Meanwhile, the company has relocated its plant and distribution centre from Brampton / Canada, to a 1,394m² facility in Oakville, Mississauga, Ontario. Storopack said the location gives quick and easy access to customers in the Greater Toronto area, Brampton, Mississauga, South Western Ontario and New York State. According to Wachter, the upgraded centre will address the changing needs of the company’s Canada business over the medium to long term. “It will help us better meet our distributors’ needs as well as our customers’ needs for continuously increased productivity of their protective packaging processes, at higher levels of service quality,” he commented.
