In a deal the financial details of which were not disclosed, Greiner Packaging International (GPI, Kremsmünster / Austria; www.greiner-gpi.com) has acquired a 51% majority control in Turkish dairy packaging producer Teknik Plastik (Istanbul; www.teknikplastik.com.tr) as well as in-mould-labelling (IML) technology specialist Teknik IML (Istanbul). The shares were acquired from GPI’s commercial partner Özata Group (www.ozatagroup.com). The acquisition brings 270 new employees into GPI’s fold and also makes it “the market leader in rigid plastic packaging for dairy products in Turkey,” the company said.
“We are systematically carrying on the globalisation strategy with this expansion to Turkey, and this represents the first step toward markets in the Middle East and Asia,” said parent company Greiner Holding’s (Kremsmünster / Austria; www.greiner.at) chairman Axel Kühner. The purchase is part of GPI’s medium-term strategy to grow outside of Europe. As part of this goal, the company last year inaugurated its first US-based office – see Plasteurope.com of 03.11.2014.
