SCHUR FLEXIBLES
German packaging specialist Vacufol acquired / Austrian group plans additional purchases
In the end it did not take long for Austria’s Schur Flexibles Group (Baden; www.schur.com) to make its next investment, following August’s acquisition of German film manufacturer Flexofol Verpackungen (Kempten; www.flexofol.de) – see Plasteurope.com of 06.08.2012. True to the “buy and build” strategy adopted by the private equity group behind the company – Capiton (Berlin / Germany; www.capiton.de) – and packaging expert Jakob Mosser, Schur on 6 September 2012 closed the purchase of yet another German packaging group, Vacufol (Bad Grönenbach; www.vacufol.com). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Vacufol specialises in the production of EVOH-based shrink films and bags, PA/PE lidding as well as thermoforming films used for food and pharmaceutical packaging. Schur CEO Mosser said the Bad Grönenbach-based company’s portfolio was “a perfect extension” of the Austrian group’s existing production portfolio for the fresh food market.
The acquisition brings the number of Schur’s operations to seven, including three other plants in Germany, as well as one each in Kolding / Denmark, Leek / The Netherlands and Bogucin / Poland. Schur’s 710 employees last generated sales of about EUR 160m, the group – whose products are sold across 50 different countries – said. Speaking to Plasteurope.com, Mosser said the group was planning additional acquisitions in the future, adding that these purchases are expected to raise total sales to EUR 250m by 2013.
