Coca-Cola, Ford, Heinz, Nike and Procter & Gamble form collaborative to accelerate development of products made from plant-based PET
Five major US enterprises have announced the formation of the "Plant PET Technology Collaborative" (PTC), a strategic working group focused on accelerating the development and use of 100% plant-based PET materials and fibres in their products. Members of the newly-formed PTC are: Global beverage giant Coca-Cola Company (Atlanta, Georgia / USA; www.thecoca-colacompany.com), car company Ford (Dearborn, Michigan / USA; www.ford.com), food manufacturer Heinz (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / USA; www.heinz.com), sporting goods producer Nike (Beaverton, Oregon / USA; www.nikeinc.com) and consumer products giant Procter & Gamble (P&G, Cincinnati, Ohio / USA; www.pg.com). The five enterprises are using PET in a variety of products and materials including plastic bottles, apparel, footwear and automotive fabric and carpet.
The collaborative builds upon the success of the Coca-Cola Company's packaging technology, which uses plant-based feedstock and has demonstrated a lower environmental impact when compared to traditional plastic bottles – see Plasteurope.com of 20.12.2011 and of 15.05.2012. Currently, Heinz licenses the technology from Coca-Cola for a selection of Heinz ketchup bottles in the US and Canada.
