STYROLUTION
First PS products to contain post-consumer recycled material are launched
Styrolution America (Florham Park, New Jersey / USA; www.styrolution.us.com) will showcase what it claims to be the first PS products containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) PS at the NPE 2012 International Plastics Showcase in Orlando, Florida / USA from 2 to 5 April 2012 – see Plasteurope.com of 08.03.2012. The range includes three grades, each with 25% PCR content, which is supplied by NextLife (Boca Raton, Florida / USA; www.nextlife.com), a manufacturer of sustainable plastic resins for use in a variety of applications.
The grades are FDA-compliant for food contact and have been developed for injection moulding and extrusion applications requiring consistent resin properties. Styrolution said the resins have the same processing properties as 100% virgin PS and are targeted at injection moulded opaque applications, such as cutlery, housewares, office accessories and appliance components.
PCR3125 is for use in injection moulding applications and is based on a general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) grade, while PCR5625 and PCR6225 for injection moulding and extrusion applications respectively are based on high impact polystyrene (HIPS) grades.
“This product line proves that polystyrene is absolutely a recyclable product,” said Styrolution vice president Ed Barnes. “We look forward to working within our industry to increase the reclamation and reuse of polystyrene materials into eco-friendly end products.”
