After investing more than EUR 400m to expand capacity at its plant in Stenungsund / Sweden, Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealis.com) on 2 June officially inaugurated the site’s new additions, which include a 350,000 t/y high pressure LDPE plant to manufacture high quality wire and cable applications, as well as modernised compounding and material-handling facilities. The new plant has been running since the beginning of the year – see Plasteurope.com of 03.02.2010.
The group said that during the course of 2010, it will gradually phase out old PE lines with capacity of 230,000 t/y. Taking the new capacity into account, Borealis’ production site in Stenungsund will amount to a total of 700,000 t/y of PE once the older lines are idled.
