Coolrec (Waalwijk / The Netherlands; www.coolrec.com) has stopped recompounding at its site in Emmen / The Netherlands, reports recycling association NRK (The Hague / The Netherlands; www.nrkrecycling.nl). According to media reports, the plant is now to be sold. The reason given for the shutdown, which affects nine employees, is the strong competition from low-priced virgin materials on recyclate prices. A spokesperson told Plasteurope.com that “Coolstar” rHIPS production and marketing is now being done with local partners.
Coolrec opened its Emmen plant in 2017 – see Plasteurope.com 17.01.2017. The main materials recycled at the site were polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and ABS from scrap electrical equipment. In the same year, Coolrec’s parent company Van Gansewinkel was taken over by UK recycler Renewi (Milton Keynes; www.renewiplc.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 09.11.2017.
