UBE
Products for high-end composite applications displayed at "JEC" in Paris
The Japanese Ube Group (Tokyo; www.ube.com) showcased several new products at "JEC World 2017" (www.jeccomposites.com) trade fair in Paris / France – see Plasteurope.com of 23.03.2017.
One of these was its “Upilex” polyimide resin. Ube said the combination of high thermal and chemical stability makes this resin particularly suitable as a separation film, as well as a release film for PEEK or PPS. With an elongation property of up to 170%, the Upilex-RN grade can be used as a vacuum bagging film.
A second product displayed was “Tyranno Fiber”, a polycrystalline silicon carbide (SiC) fibre that is used in ceramic matrix composite (CMC) applications including aircraft turbines, gas burners, diesel particle filters and exhaust pipes, among many others. Ube said it has significantly increased the fibre’s thermal stability to above 2,000 °C.
Other highlights from Ube were “Upia”-NF, a water-based polyimide paint with a heat resistance of up to 450 °C; asymmetrical monomer 2,3,3',4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (a-BPDA) that can be used to increase the heat resistance and viscosity of polymer products or as a matrix resin for composites; and Simtex, which is a high-strength PP fibre for manufacturing thermoplastic composites.
