TICONA
Takeover of LFT compounder by parent company Celanese / Merger of production at Kaiserslautern
US chemical producer Celanese (Dallas, Texas; www.celanese.com) has acquired German long fibre-reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) compounder Future Advanced Composites & Technology (FACT, Kaiserslautern; www.fact-kunststoffe.com) from leading compounder and distributor Ravago (Arendonk / Belgium; www.ravago.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 05.11.2009. From 1 January 2010, FACT will be managed by Celanese engineering plastics subsidiary Ticona (Kelsterbach / Germany; www.ticona.com) as a separate company trading as Celstran GmbH.
The acquisition will create synergies with Ticona’s existing portfolio in terms of capacity as well as technology. In mid-2011, the “Celstran” LFT production at Kelsterbach will be merged into the FACT facilities at Kaiserslautern. The deal neatly answers the question of where to relocate the business after Kelsterbach is closed in 2011 to make room for an expansion of Frankfurt’s international airport. POM production will be transferred to the nearby Höchst chemical park, where Ticona is building a new plant – see Plasteurope.com of 02.10.2008.
