SAINT-GOBAIN
German speciality adhesive tapes maker to be acquired / Expansion of Biolink's Bad Tölz facility
French building materials manufacturer Saint-Gobain (Paris; www.saint-gobain.com) said it has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the equity capital of German speciality adhesive tapes producer Biolink (Waakirchen; www.biolink-tapes.de). Financial details were not disclosed.
A statement by Munich-based industrial holding company Blue Cap (www.blue-cap.de) said its subsidiary Planatol Holding (Rohrdorf / Germany; www.planatol.de) has sold the latter’s 89.85% stake in Biolink to Saint-Gobain’s Performance Plastics Isofluor. The deal is expected to close by 30 June 2017.
Saint-Gobain said the acquisition will help expand its performance plastics business in the “fast growing adhesives market” in Germany. The deal comes after its takeover of Italian tape producer h-old (Biandrate; www.h-old.com) from Arcadia Small Cap (Milan / Italy; www.arcadiasgr.it) at the end of last year (see Plasteurope.com of 23.11.2016).
Biolink develops and produces environmentally friendly, solvent-free acrylic resin adhesive tapes for a variety of applications in the aeronautic, automotive and other industrial markets, mostly in Europe.
Rising demand for high quality adhesives technology has boosted Biolink’s order books for years now, pushing the main facility in Waakirchen to reach its limits. There are short-term plans to outsource some of its production and processing. As part of the long-term development it bought a 25,000 m² piece of land in Bad Tölz / Germany a few weeks ago. A building with 12,000 m² space for production and administration is to be built there in the first phase. It will house some 120 staff in Research and Development as well as Marketing. Managing director Peter Gämmerler said he expects Bad Tölz will become the site for the headquarters and core activities – adhesive manufacturing and coating.
