Spanish energy and petrochemicals group Repsol (Madrid; www.repsol.com) has teamed up with plastic packaging producer Jokey (Wipperfürth / Germany; www.jokey.com) and organic dairy company Cantero de Letur (Letur / Spain; www.elcanterodeletur.com) to introduce recycled plastic packaging in the organic dairy industry.
Manufactured by Jokey with certified circular polyolefins from Repsol’s “Reciclex” range, the recycled packaging will be used by Cantero de Letur for its cheese products. Earlier this year, the petrochemicals group started supplying recycled polypropylene from the same range to Berry Global (Evansville, Indiana / USA; www.berryglobal.com), for use in food and healthcare packaging (see Plasteurope.com of 04.01.2021).
Repsol has certified all its petrochemical complexes to produce circular polyolefins under the ISCC’s (Cologne / Germany; www.iscc-system.org) “Plus” scheme, which guarantees the traceability of the plastic waste used. Jokey received this certification in August 2020 at four production sites, including for Spain. The producer’s new production facility for its Spanish subsidiary Jokey Treplás (Molina de Segura; www.treplas.com) in Murcia, 15 km from an existing plant in Molina de Segura, is currently under construction (see Plasteurope.com of 10.11.2020).
“This new alliance allows us to continue advancing in our ambition to recycle the equivalent of 20% of our polyolefins production,” said Fernando Arroyo, director of PP at Repsol.
