PU foam activities in UK to be restructured / Closure of Nelson plant considered
Belgian PU foam specialist Recticel (Brussels; www.recticel.com) has announced plans to streamline its flexible foam converting activities in the UK. As a result, activities at its plant in Nelson, Lancashire, could potentially cease before the end of Q3 this year. All 95 employees at the site have been put at risk of redundancy.
Recticel said it is considering integrating activities from the Nelson site into its conversion facility in Alfreton, over 90 miles, or 154 km, away. The company has seven sites in the UK, employing 485 people in total.
This restructuring is the latest in several measures Recticel has taken in the last two years. Last year, a foam converting plant was closed in Bladel / The Netherlands – see Plasteurope.com of 12.01.2012, while in 2011 plants were shut in North Shields / UK – see Plasteurope.com of 16.08.2011, and in Barcelona and Legutiano / Spain – see Plasteurope.com of 17.02.2011.
