The "uBin", from UK eco-specialist Green Warehouse (Bristol; www.greenwarehouse.co.uk) has been selected as the winner of the "2013 European best recycled plastic product" award organised by the European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations (EPRO, Brussels; www.epro-plasticsrecycling.org).
Manufacturing engineer Will Hayes, who also happens to be the owner of Green Warehouse – which has evolved into a specialist for office recycling bins – designed and produced the “uBin”, made from post-consumer plastic waste and aimed to encourage responsible recycling of rubbish in offices, schools, universities, hospitals and other typical work environments.
More than 150 companies submitted entries for the award and the “uBin”, which is proving successful in the marketplace, was the only UK product to be nominated as one of the three finalists. The other finalists were from Germany and Ireland.
EPRO said the main objective of the awards competition is to raise awareness of the usefulness of recycled plastic and to recognise, encourage and promote new products that utilise the resource. The award presentation was made at November's "Identiplast" congress (www.identiplast.eu) in Paris – see Plasteurope.com of 12.09.2013.
