11th “IdentiPlast” to be held in Paris in November / Zero plastics to landfill again the focus

The 11th edition of IdentiPlast (www.identiplast.eu), the international conference on plastic waste recovery organised by the European plastics producers association, PlasticsEurope (Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticseurope.org), will be held on 28-29 November at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris / France, home of the EU’s Economic, Social and Environmental Committee. Picking up on the theme of previous conferences, this year’s focus will be on the association’s goal “Zero plastics to landfill 2020”. Talks and debates will cover political and economic requirements for full recovery of plastic waste and the latest technological advances in eco-design, sorting and collection, recycling and energy recovery needed to achieve it. Speakers will include company leaders, NGOs and other European organisations. At the meeting, the “EPRO” award for the year's best recycled product will be presented. Participants also will be treated to a gala dinner cruise on the Seine River.
In the European plastics industry, the technology for achieving the target of zero plastics to landfill by 2020 “clearly exists,” PlasticsEurope’s president, Bayer MaterialScience CEO Patrick Thomas, told Plasteurope.com. As figures in the association’s report, “Plastics – the Facts 2012” (see also Plasteurope.com of 15.11.2012) indicate, some countries – led by Switzerland, Germany and Austria, along with the Benelux and Scandinavian regions – are already close to the goal. Eliminating waste on land would also help solve the problem of marine litter, Thomas says, as up to 80% of this waste originates on land.
