Business at the Kansas City, Missouri / USA, plant of Portuguese rigid packaging producer Logoplaste (Cascais; www.logoplaste.com) appears to be going well, with the company announcing a USD 35m investment to expand the facility, which first began operations in 2013 (see Plasteurope.com of 30.11.2012). Logoplaste plans to add 110 new jobs at the site in the next five years, and will also relocate some of the capacities from its plant in Chicago, Illinois, to Kansas City, making the latter its new US manufacturing and distribution hub, reports suggest. The money will also go towards new equipment and facility upgrades, necessitated by rising demand. Once all new staff are added – a precondition for the strategic economic incentive package offered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development – the Kansas City site will have an overall workforce of 185.

The Portuguese group operates 67 facilities in 17 different countries, producing rigid plastic packaging for a wide range of end markets, including food and beverage, personal care as well as oil and lubricants. Its North America activities are headed by Rui Abedlho, and aside from the plants in Kansas City and Chicago also include sites in Plainfield and Syracuse as well as operations in neighbouring Canada and Mexico.
