Kavodrink bottle range switches from polycarbonate to Eastman's “Tritan” copolyester
In a move to phase out the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in its bottles, Austrian packaging group Greiner Packaging International (Kremsmünster; www.greiner-gpi.com) has switched all its “Kavodrink” bottles from polycarbonate to Eastman Chemical’s (Kingsport, Tennessee / USA; www.eastman.com) “Tritan” copolyester grades.

Greiner has been using “Tritan” since 2010 and says the switch was prompted not only by rising consumer concerns about BPA, but also as a result of the material’s properties, including the fact that it is safe for food applications, has high impact resistance and a glass-like clarity. In addition, the copolyester is dishwasher-proof and resistant to both heat and chemicals – all properties that convinced Online tea store Adagio Teas (www.adagio.com) to switch its latest tea cup to Tritan, too – see Plasteurope.com of 29.08.2011.
