Large press production in Luxembourg to close / European distribution will remain unchanged
Husky Injection Molding Systems (Bolton, Ontario / Canada; www.husky.ca) will shut down production of injection moulding machinery at its Dudelange / Luxembourg site by the end of this year. In addition to the machinery manufacture, the site also produces PET moulds and hot runners as well as being the company’s technical centre and service and sales headquarters. The latter functions are to remain, and the European distribution network also will be kept intact.
The Canadian company, now owned by private equity investor Onex Partners (Toronto and New York; www.onex.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 19.12.2007 – employs 825 people in Luxembourg, including 130 in the affected segment. Negotiations with the workforce are in progress, and unconfirmed reports suggest that many of these jobs are threatened. In 2008, Husky announced plans to concentrate production of large-tonnage machinery at its Bolton headquarters and Shanghai / China.
