Petrochemicals producer Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) has introduced its first PP grade for squeezable cosmetics tubes. The material, “Borsoft” SL600MO, was developed for a project for Plasticum (Tilburg / The Netherlands; www.tcplasticum.com), which specified it for use in the production of a customised “Clube” for cosmetics producer L'Oréal. The Clube is a one piece squeezable tube with an integrated closure and in-mould label that cuts material usage by up to 40% – see Plasteurope.com of 28.10.2010.
“Borsoft” SL600MO was created specifically by Borealis for this project. The grade was optimised for flowability, flexibility, contact transparency and environmental stress crack resistance. It has good flow and easy processing characteristics enabling the formation of a soft tube body capable of supporting an integrated closure. From a sustainability perspective, potential elimination of the tube shoulder creates significant savings in material usage. Less waste and rejections occur, and the PP tube and cap material are fully recyclable, Borealis said.
