A one-piece tube with integrated closure – dubbed the “Clube” – that is produced in one step, including an in-mould label, has been introduced by Plasticum (Tilburg / The Netherlands; www.tcplasticum.com) and is currently being showcased at “K 2010” in Düsseldorf / Germany (www.k-online.de).
The “Clube” is claimed to offer substantial advantages for material savings and the environment and, because of the less complicated production process, flexibility and short lead times can be achieved. Plasticum developed and patented the technology to manufacture bi-injection moulded tubes with an integrated closure, using a specially developed material formulation and applying new tooling techniques. The process enables production in a single step, with no requirement for downstream equipment. The closure is fully integrated into the tube body and, since the tube shoulder has been eliminated, up to 40% material is saved, Plasticum said.
