New structure to follow the completion of Alcan acquisition / Seven business units to be established
Amcor (Abbotsford / Australia; www.amcor.com) has announced its new organisational structure as it prepares to complete its USD 2 bn purchase of Alcan Packaging (Paris / France; www.alcanpackaging.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 20.08.2009. The combined company will comprise seven business groups with group presidents reporting to Ken Mackenzie, Amcor managing director and CEO.
Amcor flexibles – Europe and Americas combines the current Amcor flexibles food and flexibles healthcare businesses with the Alcan Packaging global pharmaceutical and food Europe businesses. This will be headed by Peter Brues, presently president of Amcor flexibles healthcare, and will have annual sales of around USD 5 bn.
Amcor rigid plastics was previously Amcor PET packaging and will continue to be led by Bill Long as president. The business will consist of Amcor PET, Bericap closures – North America and Alcan Packaging pharma plastics (rigids).
Nigel Garrard will continue to lead Amcor’s Australasia business. The Asia Pacific flexibles business, which is currently managed under the Australasia operations, will form part of the new business unit, Amcor flexibles – Asia Pacific, which will be headed by Ralf Wunderlich, previously executive director, president and managing director of Linpac Packaging (Knottingley, West Yorkshire / UK; www.linpac-plastics.co.uk) – see Plasteurope.com of 13.02.2008.
The Amcor Sunclipse packaging products distribution business will continue to be led by Eric Bloom. Peter Konieczny will be president of Amcor tobacco packaging and Billy Chan continues as chairman of AMVIG Holdings, a Hong Kong listed tobacco packaging company in which Amcor has a 39% share. The Amcor Rentsch Asia business, currently reporting to Billy Chan as a part of the Amcor Asia organisation, and the Alcan tobacco Asia business, will report to Peter Konieczny.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory reviews in the US and consultations with the European Works Council. The EU has just given its approval. The new structure will not be implemented until all approvals are received and the transaction is closed.
