Delays in construction of COC plant in Germany / Production to start much later

The plant for cyclo olefin copolymers (COC) that Topas Advanced Polymers (Raunheim, Germany; www.topas.com) is currently building at Leuna will not be completed this year as originally planned. “Unfortunately, the construction of our new plant has been delayed,” a company representative told local media. “We will also be busy with the construction for the whole of next year.”

Topas’s parent company Polyplastics (Tokyo, Japan; www.polyplastics.com) is planning to invest over EUR 200 mn in the plant’s construction. With similar properties to glass, COC materials are used for insulin pumps or tests in medical diagnostics, for example. In packaging products, they improve the properties of standard polyolefins.
