German compounder Mocom (Hamburg; www.mocom.eu/en) has announced the expansion of its Gardelegen site in Saxony-Anhalt. The new production building for carbon fibre-reinforced (CFR) recyclates was recently inaugurated. The new facility has the capacity to produce 3,000 t/y of these materials, said Jens Kaatze, CEO of Mocom. According to local media reports, the expansion is to create 10 new jobs.

According to the company, the use of recycled carbon fibres from post-industrial waste significantly reduces plastics’ carbon footprint. Initially, production is set to run on just one extrusion line. However, the hall on the 39,000 m² site would be large enough to accommodate additional extruder lines, explained Kaatze.

Mocom is part of the Otto Krahn Gruppe (Hamburg; www.ottokrahn.group/en), employs around 900 worldwide, and has production facilities in Germany, the US, and China. The site in Gardelegen originally belonged to recycling subsidiary Wipag, which was integrated into the compounder last October. At the time, Kaatze had assessed the compounding capacity of the new company at a total of 80,000 t/y and the output capacity for recyclates at around 10,000 t/y.
