Packaging giant Berry Global (Evansville, Indiana, USA; www.berryglobal.com) said it plans to boost healthcare production capacity at its plants in Offranville, France, and Osnago and Sirone in Italy by up to 30%.

Financial details of the investments in what Berry called “additional assets and manufacturing capabilities” were not revealed, but the firm said once completed they would “help ensure further supply chain reliability and consistent product availability”.

Berry’s Offranville site specialises in the manufacture of standard and custom solutions for pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery devices, including ophthalmic and nasal products, such as the Rispharm multi-dose eye-dropper. Investments at Offranville include new cleanroom production to the ISO7 standard, it added.

The group’s Osnago and Sirone facilities manufacture throat spray actuators and the accompanying bottles, respectively. Berry said the investments at its Italian sites would support growing demand for prescription and over-the-counter orally-administered medicines “for the prevention and treatment of infections and respiratory diseases driven by rising air pollution levels”.
