TOTALENERGIES
Partnership with Bericap to make caps with recyclate for lubricant cans
TotalEnergies Lubrifiants (Nanterre, France), a division of French petrochemicals company TotalEnergies (Paris; www.totalenergies.com), said it has partnered with German plastic closures producer Bericap (Budenheim; www.bericap.com) to design a cap incorporating 50% post-consumer recycled plastics for lubricant cans.

The cap is to be fitted onto TotalEnergies’ 20-litre premium lubricant cans made in France and Belgium, the company said.

It noted that the final product is in compliance with DIN 60 standards for lubricants. It has the same shape and properties as its virgin alternative, while weighing 25% less and offering a lower carbon footprint, the company added.

The raw material for the cap comes from TotalEnergies’ own RE:clic mechanically recycled circular polymer. Bericap plans to process the post-consumer raw material grade, combining it with a high-performance booster to achieve virgin-like performance.
