Distribution of bio-based polyether polyols in German-speaking Europe
German distributor Nordmann (Hamburg; www.nordmann.global) said it is now distributing Weylchem’s (Frankfurt, Germany; www.weylchem.com) Velvetol-brand bio-based polyether polyols in German-speaking Europe. The company said the material can replace petroleum-based products.

Velvetol is produced in several stages through the polymerisation of bio-propanediol from fermented industrial maize. Its carbon footprint is therefore half as expensive as that of petrochemical-based alternatives.
The material can be used not only in polyurethane and thermoplastic polyurethane production, but also in dispersions as well as adhesives and sealants. According to Weylchem, possible applications include moulded parts for mining and industrial goods as well as breathable clothing and coatings for the furniture and automotive industries.
Weylchem is the fine chemicals business of investment company International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG, Luxembourg; www.ic-investors.com) and consists of twelve companies in five countries in Europe and the US. In 2021, Weylchem reported sales of EUR 650 mn with 1,700 employees.
