Alpla (Hard, Austria; www.alpla.com) said it has acquired packaging specialist Fortiflex (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico; www.fortexfortiflex.com) in a move that widens the company’s activities in the Caribbean and Central American markets. Financial details were not disclosed.

The two companies have been jointly producing buckets, lids, crates, tubs, and other products at locations in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic since 2017.

The deal is expected to strengthen the Alpla industrial division, which was established in 2023 for large-volume packaging solutions.

The Austrian company said under the deal signed in December, it is absorbing all 102 Fortiflex employees. 

Founded in 1975, Fortiflex is a leading manufacturer in the region and offers over 700 products.

Fortiflex supplies products to major regional and international customers in the construction, chemical, and food industries. In 2023, Alpla and Fortiflex installed a new production line for buckets in Costa Rica.
