Bio-based EVA from Braskem joins distribution portfolio
With immediate effect, FKuR Kunststoff (Willich, Germany; www.fkur.com) plans to distribute bio-based ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) from polyolefin supplier Braskem (São Paulo, Brazil; www.braskem.com) in the EU, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, Israel, and India. The cooperation deepens the partnership that has existed since 2011, according to the German company. FKuR is also a distribution partner for the Brazilian group’s bio-based polyethylene.

The bio-EVA of Braskem’s I’m green brand is – like the corresponding PE – made with sugar cane-based ethanol. Depending on the type, the bio-based content is said to be between 45% and 80%.
According to FKuR, applications include shoes, toys, sports equipment, tatami mats, and foams in general. As a drop-in polymer, the bio-EVA is supposed to have the same processing properties as its fossil counterpart, so customers can convert it on existing systems. Its recyclability is also expected to be the same as that of fossil-based EVA.
