BOREALIS
Resin maker to buy Bulgarian recycler Integra Plastics
Polyolefins group Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com) is on the verge of acquiring its next recycling company. The Austrian company signed an agreement for the purchase of all shares in Integra Plastics (Elin Pelin, Bulgaria; www.integra-plastics.com). However, the transaction still has to be approved by the antitrust authorities. The acquisition is to provide Borealis with more than 20,000 t of additional mechanical recycling capacity. Integra Plastics has been processing post-consumer waste into polyethylene (primarily LDPE and HDPE) and polypropylene recyclates since 2019.

Borealis has already acquired several recycling companies in recent years. It began in 2016 with German recycling companies mtm plastics and mtm compact, followed two years later by the acquisition of Ecoplast in Austria. This was later followed by the investment in the Belgian start-up Renasci and the acquisition of Italian PP recycler and compounder Rialti.
