Expansion of Altech Eco recyclate portfolio / New polyamide, polyester, polycarbonate grades
Mocom (Hamburg, Germany; www.mocom.eu), the compounding unit of the Otto Krahn Group, is bringing several new recycled compounds onto the market as part of its Altech Eco product family. According to marketing director Joachim Bernhard, these compounds mark the company’s response to the growing demand for materials containing recyclate. “In the future, we want to offer an Eco variant for each compound supplied in virgin material,” he said.

The additional materials include a high-impact PA 6 with 30% glass fibres and a matrix material incorporating up to 51% recyclate from industrial waste. One special feature according to the company is that the recycled compounds can be coloured to customer specifications without impairing their properties. So far, in the case of compounds with a high impact strength at low temperatures, this has only been possible with virgin material, a Mocom spokesperson explained.

The new developments also include a similarly glass-fibre reinforced polyester (PET/PBT) for E&E applications that partly comprise recycled bottle PET. For applications subject to increased flame retardancy requirements, two polycarbonate compounds are planned – one unreinforced and one with a 10% glass fibre component – produced on the basis of industrial and household waste. Mocom claims that both materials will meet the highest UL 94 5VA fire protection rating.
