A process developed and patented by Origin Materials (West Sacramento, California, USA; www.originmaterials.com) is said to produce bottle caps solely from recycled or bio-based PET.
The closures support recyclability because the bottle and the cap are the same material and need no seperation before reprocessing, said John Bissell, co-founder and co-CEO of Origin Materials.
In addition, PET offers a better oxygen and CO2 barrier than the common closure packaging materials HDPE and polypropylene, according to the company.
