LYONDELLBASELL
JV with German agricultural film recycler AFA Nord
US polyolefin group LyondellBasell (LYB, Houston, Texas; www.lyondellbasell.com) and German agricultural film recycler AFA Nord (Hohenwestedt; www.afa-nord.de) have announced a 50/50 joint venture with the aim of advancing the circularity of secondary plastic packaging.

Called LMF Nord and based at AFA Nord headquarters, the new company said it plans to focus on mechanically recycling post-commercial flexible secondary packaging waste made of LLDPE and LDPE at a facility that is yet to be constructed.
If all goes as planned, the partners said the plant would be up and running in early 2025 and have a capacity of 26,000 t/y. AFA Nord’s sister company TM Recycling (Hohenwestedt) has been selected to supply the plastics waste.
The resulting recyclate will be marketed through LyondellBasell’s CirculenRecover range of mechanically recycled polymers, which includes HDPE and polypropylene and is suitable for applications such as electrical appliances, detergent bottles, and suitcases.
