PP: Borealis confirms force majeure in Belgium / End unclear
Austrian polyolefin maker Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com) has told Plasteurope.com that it declared a force majeure for polypropylene at its plant in Kallo, Belgium, on 9 June.
The company said it is unclear when the FM can be lifted or when orders can be confirmed again.

The declaration is rooted in “an unforeseeable technical incident during the start-up after the planned turnaround”, the resin maker said. “Affected business partners have been informed accordingly.”
According to PIE’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), the Kallo facility has a capacity of 300,000 t/y.
The FM should not impact the overall market situation. While several plants have reduced utilisation rates, there are unlikely to be any issues with supply – because of the cheap imports available in Europe, most producers are still sitting on well-filled inventories, and demand is currently anything but noteworthy.
