SOLVAY
ISCC Plus recognition for high-performance sulphone polymers made in USA
Solvay (Brussels; www.solvay.com) has received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC Plus) recognition for the polysulphone (PSU) and polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) made at its US site in Marietta, Ohio.
The Belgian group’s certified polymers marketed as Udel (PSU ReCycle MB) and Radel (PPSU ReCycle MB) are based on monomers produced at its site in Augusta, Georgia, which received ISCC Plus accreditation in 2022. They are used to replace metals, helping to save weight and prevent corrosion.

Capacity for what the company touts as the first commercially available ISCC Plus mass balance compliant sulphone polymers worldwide is to be “significantly” expanded up to 2024 in a major investment program at Marietta, with output of PSU alone due to rise by 24%.

In the near future, Solvay said it plans to launch additional certified circular sulphone polymers, including certain grades of its Ryton-branded polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) and its polyphthalamide (PPA) sold under the Amodel trade name.
