Manufacturer of composite carton packaging SIG Combibloc (Neuhausen, Switzerland; www.sig.biz) has opened another production facility in India. The approximately 15,000 m² plant in Palghar, Maharashtra, employs around 150 people. It specialises in the production of bag-in-box packaging and resealable film pouches (so-called spouted pouches), which have supplemented the portfolio of composite carton solutions since the acquisition of packaging manufacturer Scholle IPN (Northlake, Illinois, USA; www.scholleipn.com) in early 2022.

The new production facility around 90 kilometres north of Mumbai has, among other things, blown film and injection moulding lines, machines for the production of bag-in-box solutions as well as its own on-site mould production. “The Indian market is an important growth market for SIG,” CEO Samuel Sigrist said. The resealable pouches are filled with beverage concentrates, fruit purees, and aseptic dairy products, among others. Information regarding the invested amount was not provided.

SIG already operates an older production facility in Palghar for bag-in-box and stand-up pouch packaging; it also builds horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) machines in Pune, Maharashtra. The group recently announced that it would set up a plant for aseptic carton packaging in India.
