Kumho Mitsui Chemicals (Seoul, South Korea; www.kmci.co.kr/eng) is expanding MDI capacity at its South Korean site in Yeosu by 200,000 t/y, a move begun in April 2021 and due for completion in September 2023, according to Mitsui Chemicals (MC, Tokyo, Japan; www.mitsuichemicals.com).
The new plant of the joint venture between Mitsui and Kumho (Seoul, South Korea; www.kkpc.co.kr) is then scheduled to start production in January 2024.
The expansion will increase Kumho Mitsui Chemical’s capacity at the site to 610,000 t/y. The venture operates another MDI production facility – albeit with only 200,000 t/y – in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai.
