The executive committee of the World Plastics Council (WPC; Brussels, Belgium; www.worldplasticscouncil.org) has unanimously elected Benny Mermans as its new chair. Mermans, vice-president for sustainability at Chevron Phillips, is to take office on 1 January 2023.
Succeeding James Seward (LyondellBasell), who primarily brought producers from Asia and the Middle East onto the board as members, Mermans is looking forward to what he called the “exciting but challenging transformation” the industry is currently undergoing.
Leading plastics producers founded the WPC in 2014 to drive the circular economy for plastics worldwide.
