Polymer producer Pearl Group (Dubai, United Arab Emirates; www.pearlpolyurethane.com) intends to expand significantly in Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia and produce PET and polyurethane in the future. To this end, the company has modernised a PET plant in Dubai and doubled its production capacity; about 80% of the material is to be exported.
No concrete figures were provided, so the order of magnitude remains unclear.
PU system house Pearl Polyurethane Systems emerged from a joint venture between German plastics group Covestro (Leverkusen; www.covestro.com) and Pearl Industries Overseas (Dubai; www.pearl.ae). At the beginning of 2021, Covestro had withdrawn from the joint venture, which was founded in 2006, when it was still under the aegis of Covestro’s predecessor company Bayer MaterialScience (see Plasteurope.com of 04.03.2021). Since then, Martin Kruczinna has been CEO of Pearl Polyurethane Systems.
