INVISTA
Expansion at US polyamide plant
To respond to rising global demand for PA 6.6, US resin maker Invista (Wichita, Kansas; www.invista.com), which is based in the same city as its parent company Koch Industries (www.kochind.com), plans to significantly increase the size of its domestic facility in Camden, South Carolina.

Pete Brown, the head of the Nylon Polymers division, said some EUR 64 mn will be invested in various stages over the next two years to expand storage capacities and the logistics infrastructure. The company’s first step of the expansion is to be the addition of nine new handling ramps and 22 silos for interim storage.

No information was provided on whether capacity increases are planned. According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.poylglobe.net), available PA 6.6 output at the site is currently 240,000 t/y.

Brown said he sees growth potential for polyamide primarily in e-mobility and electronics, noting that wherever resistance to high temperatures is important, PA 6.6 is the material of choice.
