US packaging giant Berry Global (Evansville, Indiana; www.berryglobal.com) is obtaining independent accreditation via EUCertPlast and the European recycling initiative RecyClass (Brussels; www.recyclass.eu) to back up its claims that its range of sustainable polymers are indeed made from recycled content.
Berry said it was going for the independent accreditation to ensure complete integrity, consistency, transparency, traceability and accurate accounting. “The third-party accreditations will provide customers with full reassurance as to the quality and authenticity of the recycled content present in Berry products.”

Earlier this year, Berry announced it was opening a centre of excellence at its plastics recycling facility in Heanor, UK, to enhance evaluation of the recyclate used in its Sustane polymers (see Plasteurope.com of 22.03.2022). The opening of the centre followed Berry’s Heanor plant gaining EUCertPlast accreditation.
