UK recycling firm Fiberight (Swansea; https://fiberight.com) is leading a consortium of four companies conducting trials for capturing, recovering, and recycling plastic packaging currently lost to landfill and incineration.
Backed with more than GBP 4 mn (EUR 4.8 mn) of UK government funding, Fiberight’s Swansea plant (see Plasteurope.com of 09.12.2021) is set to use feedstock from local Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), starting with contaminated films and rigid plastics before moving to processing reject materials. The capacity of the facility is expected to be up to 60,000 t/y.
End markets and applications for the recycled materials are to include non-food contact packaging, heavy gauge refuse sacks, pipes, buckets, and roadside furniture.
