Renewable materials will account for up to 72% by weight of DuPont’s (Wilmington, Delaware, USA; www.dupont.com) new grades of Hytrel family of thermoplastics.

The new products, called Hytrel ECO B, will be distributed throughout most of the EMEA region and Brazil by German distributor Biesterfeld (Hamburg; www.biesterfeld.com), and will feature polyether glycols made from renewable, plant-based raw materials that do not compete with the food value chain.

DuPont said the new products offer the same performance and processability qualities as established materials but feature a significantly smaller carbon footprint, and do not need to be separated in the recycling process.

All Hytrel ECO B materials will be produced at a factory that runs on electricity generated from 100% renewable sources, the firm added. Areas of application for the product include the automotive industry, the wire and cable sector, conveyor belts, bedsprings, gears, membranes, and films.
