Peruvian film producer Oben Group (Lima; www.obengroup.com) has invested an undisclosed sum in its machine fleet and ordered two new production plants. The new OPETG plant has a capacity of up to 20,000 t/y shrink film, while a second production facility will increase the group’s BOPA film capacity by 15,000 t/y.
Both plants are scheduled to come online in the first quarter of 2023 and are being supplied by French plant constructor Marchante (Montmélian; www.marchante.fr). It was not possible to establish at press time which of the group’s 13 production facilities will accommodate the two new stretching lines – the Oben Group has plants in Portugal, Poland, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and El Salvador.
Last year, the Peruvian company acquired BOPP and CPP-film manufacturer Poligal (Narón, Spain; www.poligal.com), thus reinforcing its presence in Europe (see Plasteurope.com of 09.03.2021). Oben is now considered the leading manufacturer of packaging film in Latin America, producing BOPP, CPP, BOPET, BOPA, and BOPE films as well as coatings. Up to the point when it acquired Poligal, Oben had capacities in excess of 550,000 t/y. In 2021, the group brought a 52,000 t/y BOPET plant online in Barranquilla, Colombia.
