Plastics converter Wirthwein (Creglingen, Germany; www.wirthwein.de) has now set up its fourth Chinese subsidiary, in Xi’an, Shaanxi. From January 2023 onward, the new company, Xi´an Wirthwein Plastic Technology, is to manufacture plastic components for the German engine and ventilator specialist ebm-papst (Mulfingen; www.ebmpapst.com).

Wirthwein is thus following this important customer from the electrical industry, which is also building a new site in Xi’an. The new Wirthwein subsidiary will move into a newly built hall with a total area of over 8,200 m², of which 3,850 m² will be dedicated to production and logistics. Six injection moulding machines, which Wirthwein will transfer from a sister plant in Kunshan, Jiangsu, will initially be installed there. There are also plans to purchase two new injection moulding machines. In the initial phase, some 60 jobs will be created at the new site.

For its customer, Wirthwein will manufacture axial and radial fan wheels and housings in Xi’an, and will additionally enter a new product segment with the production of stators. Total turnover is expected to be in the middle single-digit million-euro range. Wirthwein sees further customer potential in the region in the automotive and railway business areas, and in the medium term, turnover is aimed to rise to a low double-digit million-euro sum.

In China, Wirthwein has two other subsidiaries in Kunshan, just under 50 km to the northwest of Shanghai, as well as a further branch in Shenyang, in the Liaoning province.
