German thermoplastic elastomer specialist Kraiburg TPE (Waldkraiburg; www.kraiburg-tpe.com) has introduced High Resistance TPE for Cosmetics, a line of compounds said to be able to withstand contact with particularly demanding ingredients – such as isododecane – used in the cosmetics industry.
The materials for beauty applications are based on the company’s Copec TPE, which was developed to meet the requirements for high resistance to sebum oils. The company said the materials offer excellent haptic qualities and adhesion properties along with a velvet or silk feel and top adhesion properties with selected thermoplastic materials such as ABS, PC, or PC/PBT.
The materials are available in hardness grades of 65, 75, and 85 Shore A and customisable due to their opacity, according to the supplier. The compounds are said to have good processing properties for injection moulding and are suited for in-process recycling. The materials meet cosmetic industry standards for the US (FDA CFR 21) and Europe (EC regulation No. 10/2011) and are available worldwide, the supplier added.
