The supervisory board of German engineering plastics producer Covestro (Leverkusen; www.covestro.com) has renewed the contract of CEO Markus Steilemann until 31 May 2028, guaranteeing the 52-year-old executive an additional six years at the helm.
Steilemann’s current contract runs until May 2023. By extending his mandate ahead of schedule, supervisory board chairman Richard Pott said the board is emphasising its confidence in him to successfully continue the company’s transformation to become fully circular.
The German national has been a member of the Covestro managing board since September 2015 and its head since June 2018, when he took over the reins from Patrick Thomas (see Plasteurope.com of 13.04.2018). Prior to that, he held various positions in the polycarbonates business segment and from 2015 was the company’s chief commercial officer.
In addition to Steilemann, the management board includes Sucheta Govil (sales and marketing), Klaus Schäfer (technology), and Thomas Toepfer (finance).
