Polyolefin manufacturer Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com) has advanced its cooperation with Reclay Group (Herborn, Germany; www.reclay-group.com) announced at the beginning of the year with the creation of a joint company (see Plasteurope.com of 19.01.2022).
The plan is for their Herborn-based Recelerate venture to receive lightweight packaging waste from the collection and sorting of Reclay Group’s take-back system and recycle it through Borealis. Among other things, the company is to use Borealis’ Borcycle recycling technology.
Recelerate, in which waste management company Raan Group – the Reclay Group parent – and Borealis each hold half the shares, plans to develop new solutions to manage, sort, and recycle the waste. The aim is to keep as much plastics refuse as possible in the cycle and thus within the value chain. “By rethinking and optimising sorting and recycling processes, we will unlock better plastics circularity,” said Raffael A. Fruscio, the owner and MD of Reclay Group.

Reclay MD Christian Abl and Andreas Leitner, director of circular economy solutions at Borealis, have been appointed MDs of the new company.
As a member company in Germany’s Duales System for waste collection and recycling, Reclay had a market share of 12.77% for lightweight packaging in the country in the first quarter of 2022, according to preliminary data from the German Central Packaging Register Office (ZSVR, Osnabrück; www.verpackungsregister.org).
